The second day of the MEVZA youth tournament in Debrecen has raised a few questions. Will the home nation finally win his first match? Can we base anything upon the results of the previous day? Well, all questions have been answered.
It was clear that the czech teams are the top favourites both for the girls
and the boys. It was clear that the dutch girls are way better than they were
yesterday. And it was clear that the rest of the pack is pretty close to each
other. Let's see what happened on Day Two?
On the first girls' match Hungary faced the feared Czech Republic and it was
obvious from the very first moment that the outcom was in the hands of the
latter team. The first set was a joyride, the second was a bit tighter and with
the win already under their belt, the czech girls could allow the home team to
get back and take the third.
Then came the dutch girls and shown the romanians, who have attracted the crowd
yesterday some of their best play. Having won the second set in a thriller, they
simply let the third go but it is clear that the poor results of the first day
was far from reality.
Austria against Hungary, a match that we were all waiting for. Finally a team
that is not taller, or stronger, a team that also plays volleyball, so it was a
possible eye-catcher. But it wasn't to be. The hungarian girls were so fired up
and eager to get their first win that it left the austrian young ladies fall
behind early and the home team has never looked back.
The Netherlands against Slovakia turned to be a one sided contest, and now the
top teams should thank the dutch girls for waking up so late. The nice,
free-flowing play of the romanian girls should have been enough against Austria,
at least on paper. But the austrian girls have shown real fighting spirit,
winning the tight first set and an almost so tight second.
On the last match of the day it was a family affair - between the Czech Republic
and Slovakia. Anyone who expected an easy czech win have failed. The slovakinas
were brething down the czech's neck all the way in the second set, and it was
only a few points that would decide the outcome.
So for the girls's trophy the Czech Republic plays Romania, for the boys' crown
ther is a family affair between the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
